Introduction

  • Psychology field
    Korea Military Academy realized that psychology which researches the behavior and mental process of human scientifically was an essential element for cadets to become future leaders of the army so the Department of Commanding Psychology was established as a department of Cadet Corps in 1953. In 1972, the status was elevated to the Faculty of Commanding Psychology and in 1974, a counseling office was established to share the cadet's issue of adapting to the academy.
    In 1995, the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Commanding Psychology was included in the Faculty of Social Science under the Academic Board due to the restructuring of the Academic Board and the Department of Life Guidance remained in the Cadet Corps to execute its duty. Currently, the Department of Psychology teaches psychology and leadership to all cadets and along with the amendment of curriculum in 1999, the major has been renamed as “Commanding Behavior Science”. The faculty members specialize in diverse major fields including social psychology, clinical psychology, organizational psychology, perceptual psychology, physiological psychology, offering comprehensive education.
  • Management field
    Management study is an extremely practical study that can realistically be reflected in the planning, decision-making, duty allocation, commanding, control and human resource management which commanders and staffs would be frequently exposed to in field war. More than anything else, this study is capable of fostering systematic, rational and innovative management mind necessary for cadets to execute work. In particular, various major subjects are bing operated with focus on the fields of human resources and munitions and through effective and efficient curriculum applied with theory and case studies, comprehensive education is conduced on cadets to become elimte commissioned officers with a good level of understanding on the global competition environment and strategic thinking skills.

Objectives

  • Psychology field
    The goal is to promote human resource management and commanding skills by understanding the behaviors of human in organizations or social groups by understanding the behavior and psychology of individuals.
  • Management field
    The management field teaches basic knowledge on the fundamental management process of planning, organization, command and control which is essential in all high-ranking officers as well as various management techniques to apply it on actual work, ensuring that cadets would be equipped with problem-solving skills in the management of various organizations that high-ranking officers in the army would be exposed to. In particular, the goal is to foster innovative thinking skills and risk management competence so that officers would be equipped with competitiveness required in this era, pioneering efficiency in national defense management.
